Our Belonging Series explores what belonging means to our community through the voices of youth and families in our programs. Through storytelling, we explore how Camp Fire helps create spaces where kids feel safe, confident, and connected, and where belonging truly belongs to them.
In this next installment, we hear from a parent who’s seen the power of Camp Fire firsthand. Hear their surprise and pride as they watch their child embrace the independence of overnight camp. From sleeping outside to choosing their adventures, they realize they can do it all on their own.
They also describe how Camp Fire helped their child feel accepted and supported at a time when they were struggling at school. From navigating food allergies to building friendships and trust with counselors, Camp Fire helped their child feel safe, understood, and free to be themselves.
These stories serve as reminders of what’s possible when youth feel safe and seen.
