History

Our Grand Rapids property has been around for 70 years! A few fun facts about Bluewater:

  • In 1954, Camp Fire purchased a lease in the Chippewa National Forest with a match from the Blandin Foundation so campers could experience the Northwoods. Volunteers built many of the structures you see there today!
  • The first season of summer camp at Bluewater began in 1958.
  • In 1997, the main lodge was built with the help of local foundations and individuals.
  • Through the years, we’ve hosted day and overnight camps and local school groups at Bluewater. Though we are not currently running traditional camps at this time, campers can visit through our Northwoods Adventure Trips!
