WAYS TO MAKE A PLANNED GIFT

There are many ways to make a Planned Gift. These are among the more popular, but together with the expertise of the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundations, we can help you explore ways to achieve your philanthropy goals.

Let us know you’ve included Camp Fire in your giving plans – email a completed Declaration of Intent (PDF) form to saral@campfiremn.org.

Endowments

Endowment funds are a wonderful way to ensure support for Camp Fire Minnesota’s work in perpetuity. You may establish your own endowment or contribute to one currently established:

  • Contribute to a pre-established Endowment  |  DONATE
    • Camp Preservation Fund: maintains and improves Camp Fire’s 103-acre property in Excelsior for future generations to enjoy
    • Camp Fire Minnesota Legacy Fund: ensure a strong future for Camp Fire Minnesota programs and greater accessibility to outdoor experiences for youth.
  • Establish an endowment in your name

Other popular planned giving opportunities

Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) & IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

If you are age 70½ or older, the IRS requires you to take RMDs each year from your tax-deferred retirement accounts. To reduce the impact of this taxable income, many donors choose to make a qualified charitable donation (QCD) from their IRA to their favorite charities. Donors may distribute up to $100,000 without paying income tax, so long as the check is made out directly to the charitable organization.

Gifts that Provide Lifetime Income

Choose to receive lifetime income while supporting Camp Fire Minnesota. A Charitable Gift Annuity or Charitable Remainder Trust provides you with a fixed income for the rest of your life.

"Bunching" to maximize itemize deduction

Given the The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, many donors and tax advisors have determined it’s more effective to “bunch” their donations. You would give the same amount of dollars that you would over a two-year period, but you “bunch” them into one year to achieve the itemized deduction requirement ($12,000/individual).

We’re here to help

While we can’t give you legal or tax advice, we and Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation can work with you (and your professional advisors) to develop a gift plan that is right for you.
