FAQ: The Great Tana-re-doona
Phase 2: Dining & Community Center
What will the new Community & Dining Center look like?
Inspired by the Big Woods of Tanadoona, the Community & Dining Center will have an open air feel. While indoors, campers and guests will still see and feel nature all around. While offering modern technologies for rental groups, this space will maintain an unplugged simplicity for campers.
How will the new Community & Dining Center be different?
Inside it will offer greater seating capacity for meals and a larger modern commercial kitchen. A brand new Teaching Kitchen will expand programming giving youth hands-on cooking lessons with fresh produce and herbs from the gardens. Additionally, this new building provides lower-level program space, with the option to easily transform the dining area into program space.
Where will the new Community & Dining Center be located?
Our intention is for the new Center to be located in the same general location as the current Dining Hall.
How many people will the new Community & Dining Center seat?
The new Center will seat 200 people in the main dining area. It will also have a new outside casual gathering space with seating and a new spacious program area downstairs.
How will the new Community & Dining Center be used?
It will better serve our summer campers as well as expand Tanadoona’s usage year-round. We’ll welcome schools, youth-serving organizations, community groups, families, weddings, and more during the off-season.
When will the new Community & Dining Center be built?
Our goal is to begin construction Fall 2019 and to have the new Center be open for use Summer 2020.
Will construction affect summer camp?
No. Our goal is for construction to take place when summer camp is not in session.
Will you salvage any part of the existing Dining Hall?
Our intention is to refurbish the existing fireplace and to incorporate it into the new outside gathering space. We also plan to preserve elements of Tanadoona history in the new design, such as the paddles.
How can I support the vision for a year-round Tanadoona?
First, thank you! There are many ways to get involved:
- support the Tanadoona Legacy Fund with a planned gift
- contribute to our scholarship fund
- participate in our programs
- book Tanadoona for your next group or corporate event or team-building.
