Campaign for Tanadoona
Building on Tradition, Kindling Change
Tanadoona has been an idyllic outdoor escape for
kids of all ages since 1924. With five natural landscapes and the convergence of two major watersheds (Mississippi River and Minnesota River), Tanadoona provides a unique natural classroom. What's more its proximity to the Twin
Cities makes it a convenient choice for busy parents wanting their children to gain traditional camp experiences.
The Campaign for Tanadoona is a chance to reinvest in and revitalize this southwest metro gem. Together we will preserve Tanadoona's rustic charm, while improving infrastructure and amenities.
The ultimate goal is to provide more youth with a richer camp experience year-round, allowing more consistent time connecting to nature and just being a kid.
The Master Plan
The Campaign for Tanadoona launched in 2012 with the unveiling of a Master Plan for Tanadoona (pdf). The Master Plan was developed by two architects who not only spent a great deal of time at Tanadoona, but held focus groups with campers and the Tanadoona community, and even spent a night at Tanadoona with campers! The Master Plan is transformative, and will be accomplished through a series of phases.

Phase One of the Master Plan for Tanadoona
Phase One of the Campaign for Tanadoona is a $1.5 million investment to improve the Tanadoona experience.
Phase One construction started in 2014 with the construction of a new front entrance to welcoming campers and visitors to Tanadoona. Natural, indigenous landscaping around the gate is just the beginning of what will one day be a large grove of native Minnesota trees at the entrance.
A new Day Camp Village, named Ginkgo Circle, is now in use with six brand new day camp cabins.
This provides day campers with the same community experience resident campers enjoy today in Corona Circle and helps prepare them to progress into resident camp.
Three new resident camp cabins are also under construction this summer. Each will have a capacity double what the current cabins accommodate and are set to be complete by the end of July.
Additional Phase One construction will continue into 2015 with more exciting projects such as an outdoor living classroom as pictured here; however the fundraising for Phase One will close at the end of 2014.
